Top Foods to Say “Bye-Bye” to When You’re Dieting

#1 – Soda

If you've ever heard the phrase "empty calories," whoever was speaking was probably referring to soda. Soda contains tons of calories, but you'd never know it. It might fill you up a little bit, but not in any substantial way. 

To the contrary, soda gives you an initial sugar rush, followed by a crash. It doesn't give you actual energy. Furthermore, it adds no nutritional value to your diet.

#2 – Alcohol

Speaking of empty calories, alcohol does you no good either. In fact, studies have shown that those who drink tend to eat more when they drink. You've probably noticed this when you've gone out for beers with friends, intending to only have a salad for dinner with your drink and ending up with a burger and fries.

And if you think you can get away with just a "glass of red wine" for your health, think again. One five-ounce glass of red wine has a whopping 125 to 150 calories.

#3 – Fancy coffees

People who love their fancy coffees love their fancy coffees. Unfortunately, a stylish mocha-hazelnut-frappe-whole-milk-latte with whipped cream can cost you about a third of your daily caloric limit when you’re on a diet. 

If you must have a somewhat fancy coffee drink, opt for something like a low-fat flavored cappuccino or a whole milk latte with no flavoring.

#4 – Ice cream

It’s a sad day, isn’t it?

Yes, unfortunately, ice cream is a serious culprit if you love the stuff but also want to lose weight. Just a half of a cup of full-fat ice cream can have anywhere from 140 to 240 calories. If you’ve ever seen half of a cup … you know that’s not enough for a true ice cream-lover. Therefore, it’s essentially better to cross it off your list for now.
